When Everything is Happening at Once

Lately, it feels like everything is happening at once.

I am getting ready to host our Scholastic Book Fair, which is exciting but also a lot of work. We are deep into analyzing data to identify which students need the most support and possible tutoring. Some of my students are struggling with motivation, and Valentine’s Day is right around the corner. On top of all of that, we are still just trying to show up, teach every day, and do the best we can.

If you are in this season too, I see you.

The Beautiful Chaos of This Time of Year

This time of year feels like controlled chaos. There are so many moving pieces, and sometimes it feels like as soon as I check one thing off my list, three more things appear!

The Book Fair is one of those things that takes a lot of planning, organizing, and energy, but I still love it. Watching students get excited about books never gets old. Seeing them walk out holding a story they cannot wait to read reminds me why we do this. At the same time, we are looking closely at data and trying to support students who need extra help. That work matters, but it can be heavy. And when some students seem apathetic or checked out, it can feel discouraging. There are days when I have to remind myself that showing up consistently still matters, even when it feels like progress is slow.

Finding Small Ways to Bring Joy Back

This is also the season where I try to intentionally bring in small moments of joy for my students and for myself. That is where things like Valentine’s activities and treats come in. Not because they are academic miracles, but because they remind students that school can still be warm, fun, and human. Sometimes, those moments are what reopen the door to learning. I created a simple Valentine’s activity that is easy to implement and meaningful for students. It is something I would have wanted in my own classroom on busy weeks like these. If you are interested, you can find the Valentine's Day activity here.

The Little Things That Keep Me Going

On weeks like this, I also notice how much the little things matter.

A good pen. A comfortable desk setup. A planner that actually makes me feel organized instead of overwhelmed. These are not big, life-changing things, but they make my long days feel just a little bit easier. I have been sharing some of my favorite desk essentials, including the pens I always reach for and a few organization tools that help me stay grounded and productive during busy seasons like this.

We Are Doing More Than We Think

If you are feeling stretched right now, you are not alone.

This season of teaching asks a lot of us. We are planning events, analyzing data, supporting students emotionally, keeping routines going, and still trying to be creative and present. That is not small work. Even when it feels like everything is happening at once, you are still making a difference. You are still showing up. And that matters more than you probably realize.

Always Cheering You on,

Nicky B. 💗
